February 6, 2010

The first formal poetry workshop of the spring series, which was due to meet tomorrow at noon, has had to be postponed due to the inclement weather. The series will now begin on February 28th.

If you were planning to attend the workshops and have not yet formally registered, pleaseĀ  email me to request a registration form. I will also forward some advance copies of workshop materials. Looking forward to seeing you on Feb 28th!

Formal Poetry Is Alive & Well

January 22, 2010

On Sunday January 31st from 3-5 p.m. the Manayunk Art Center will be hosting a celebration of formal/metrical poetry coordinated by Anna Evans, a well-known area formal poet, and Peter Krok, the Humanities Director of the MAC. Some other area poets included in the program are Lisa Barnett, Terry Culleton, Brian Sammond, Richard Bank and Christine Yurick.

The program will start off with a short talk by Anna Evans on two significant formal poets of the twentieth century, Edna St. Vincent Millay and Philip Larkin. Then the invited formal poets will read 2-3 poems in the spirit of the proceedings–either their own formal work or poems by formal poets they admire. After the presentation there will be an Open Mic and the audience is invited to share in the afternoon program by reading their formal work or their own favorite poems.

This afternoon program will serve as the springboard for a formal/metrical poetry workshop which will be held at the Manayunk Art Center and be scheduled on alternate Sundays from February through the spring. The workshop will be facilitated by Anna Evans. Space will be limited so those interested should come to the MAC on January 31 or send an email to Peter Krok at macpoet1_at_aol_dot_com.
